Public Advocacy

PPMW is hiring two unpaid public advocacy interns to assist our Senior Community Organizer for the fall of 2018.

Our ideal candidate is hardworking, passionate, and dedicated to electing pro-choice, pro-women candidates to office. They should have a proven commitment to progressive values and a track record in community service and engagement. Community and electoral organizing experience is a plus. Diverse candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

What we’re looking for:

  • College student, freshman through senior, interested in community organizing, politics, public affairs, and reproductive justice
  • Able to commit a minimum of 20 hours per week with occasional weekend availability
  • Passion for progressive advocacy; excellent oral communication + organizational skills
  • Experience phone-banking or canvassing for an organization or candidate is a plus

What you’ll do:

  • Organize grassroots efforts with the goal of preserving and broadening access to reproductive health care in DC, Maryland, and Virginia
  • Participate in canvassing efforts, phone-banking opportunities, and volunteer recruitment through the use of organizing tools such as NGP VAN
  • Perform research, writing, and other duties as assigned

Details:

The internship is based out of our Washington DC NOMA office. The intern is asked to be available for 20 hours a week. Internships with PPMW are an excellent way to gaining valuable political and advocacy experience in the fight for reproductive healthcare access.

Brand and Marketing INternship 

Seeking a hard-working, personable intern to assist our Branding and Marketing Associate this spring.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is a motivated self-starter who is willing to lend their talents to strengthen the Planned Parenthood brand while also taking time to listen, ask questions, & take direction. We want someone who is creative, professional, & thoughtful when interacting with online communities & building relationships. Diverse candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on strategy development for marketing campaigns
  • Creative collateral development
  • Implement marketing plans for health centers across MD & DC
  • Product assembly & sales
  • Advertising campaign ROI
  • Contribute to website development
  • Other marketing/brand projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • Required: knowledge of Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator
  • Practical skills on Canva
  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to reproductive rights and PPMW mission and goals
  • College student, sophomore through senior. Prefer Marketing majors, but applications from all majors welcomed.
  • Able to commit 1-2 full days in the DC office per week

Details:

The internship is based out of our Washington DC NOMA office. This internship is unpaid. The intern is asked to be available approximately 16 hours a week, but this can be negotiated depending on the intern’s summer schedule. Internships with PPMW are an excellent way to build your resume while gaining valuable experience.

Start and end dates are to be determined based on academic schedule, if applicable.

Communications INTERNSHIP  

Seeking a hard-working intern to assist with 501(c)(3) & 501(c)(4) social media, internal & external communications, & public relations projects that support our mission this fall.

Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with a good sense of humor who is willing to lend their talents to further the PPMW mission. Diverse candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • 501(c)(3) & 501(c)(4) social media content planning, creating, & scheduling
    • Daily Twitter content, including compiling retweets
    • Daily Facebook content
    • Weekly Instagram content
  • Design graphics for social media using Canva
  • Assist with the weekly volunteer opportunity email & the monthly staff newsletter
  • Compile press clips on a weekly basis
  • Research dates and populate the digital content calendar each month
  • Attend community events & cover them live for social media
  • Write blog posts for the PPADMV and PPMW websites
  • Other public affairs projects, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to reproductive rights and PPMW’s mission and goals
  • College student, sophomore through senior. Prefer Communications, Journalism, Women’s Studies, or Political Science majors but applications from all majors welcomed!
  • Able to commit 15-20 hours in the DC office per week
  • Experience with many social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Creativity, humor, & wit!
  • Knowledge of Canva preferred

Education INTERNSHIP

Our ideal candidate is a person with a passion for Sex Education, dedication to learning new information about trending topics and best practices to teaching reproductive health, as well as motivation to engage the local community about sex education and access to reproductive health. This internship is especially beneficial for Public Health/Health Education majors who want a more hands on experience. Fluent/native Spanish speakers are highly encourage to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • 20 Hours commitment per week
  • Assist bilingual health educator with lesson planning
  • Shadow bilingual health educator in weekly workshops
  • Participate in local community events

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to reproductive rights and PPMW mission and goals
  • Availability to travel to different sites
  • Basic knowledge on sex education

Community Engagement INTERNSHIP

We are seeking a hard-working, personable intern to assist our External Relations team this semester with community engagement!

Our ideal candidate is someone who is a detailed oriented self-starter who is willing to lend their talents to strengthen the Planned Parenthood mission and values. We want someone who is creative, professional, hard-working, and focused. Diverse candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist developing and participate in Health Center Advocacy Program (HCAP)
  • Data input
  • Recruit volunteers
  • Cultivate relationships for various PPMW departments
  • Research community partner events and attend events on behalf of PPMW, representing PPMW’s mission and values
  • Communicate with rapid response volunteers
  • Assist the Volunteer and Engagement Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to reproductive rights and PPMW mission and goals
  • College student
  • Must be able to work some weekends and evenings

Details:

The internship is based out of our Washington DC NoMa office. The intern is asked to be available 16-20 hours a week, including weekends and evenings. Due to the nature of this internship, some events will be assigned within 24-hours of the event. This internship is unpaid. Internships with PPMW are an excellent way to build your resume while gaining valuable experience. Through PPMW’s internship program, you will not only gain skills pertinent your specific internship, but also to increase your employability through additional professional development opportunities.
